The doctors at Livingston Foot Care Specialists on Long Island have been seeing a marked increase in serious infections after our patients have pedicures at local salons. These infections range from infected, painful ingrown nails to fungal nails to potentially life-threatening skin infections. Local salons do not sterilize their tools and infections are also spread through the pipes in the chairs they use. Just spraying the basin into which a person places his or her feet does not eliminate the bacteria and or fungus that are present.
It is for these reasons that we at Livingston Foot Care Specialists have put into place a medical spa, offering pedicures and other spa treatments. Our licensed, professional technician uses only autoclaved instruments. These instruments are subjected to the same stringent sterilization techniques used for operating room instruments. The pedicure chair is pipeless and each person uses an individual liner that is disposable. We even require each person to have his or her own polish as we do not want cross contamination from the polish brush and all the products used are environmentally friendly. Should the technician suspect any type of medical problem, the doctor is always available for immediate consult. Our technician will not treat ingrown nails or painful calluses.
Our medi spa offers other services to increase relaxation. Our technician is trained and licensed in massage therapy and reflexology. Exfoliation and aromatherapy services are also being offered to help relieve the stress and tensions of daily life.
